First phase of the “GSO Leadership Academy” for outstanding German speaking early- and mid-career scientists took place in Boston. Four days of classroom activities included topics like self-assessment, strategy development, leading teams and co-workers, and conflict management. A tour of Harvard campus, a podium discussion at the German consulate and a meet-up with German academics working in Boston complemented the training sessions. Co-fellows teach and research in the USA, Australia, Israel, Canada, the Netherlands, Germany and the UK in medicine, chemistry, pedagogical sciences, to environmental sciences, regional development, and law. Discussions during group assignments and breaks allowed me to put my own teaching and research in a global and multi-disciplinary scope and better prepare for leadership roles in science and society.
